Dr. Shah is a pediatric anesthesiologist and medical director of the Pediatric Chronic Pain Treatment Program at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. He has served as an investigator for institutional and multi-center pain research, including work to elucidate pharmacokinetic and pharmacogenetic variations in pediatric opioid responsiveness. As a member of the Lurie Children’s Hospital Opioid Task Force, he has developed a hospital-wide plan for opioid stewardship that includes both patient education and population monitoring. He has given lectures at national forums and has held workshops to edify both pain practitioners and members of the general public on safe opioid prescribing, multimodal approaches to pediatric pain management, and the use of regional anesthesia as an alternative to opioid pharmacotherapy. He has published original investigations and reviews of emerging pain management strategies and has extensive experience in clinical education, serving as an examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology and as lead faculty for several international pain management workshops.
