Edward C. Covington, MD Cleveland Clinic Foundation

Dr. Covington is an emeritus staff at Cleveland Clinic. He was trained in psychiatry at Mayo Clinic. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in psychiatry with added qualifications in pain management and addiction medicine. He is also certified by the American Board of Pain Medicine. He worked in the Neurological Institute at Cleveland Clinic, where he founded the Chronic Pain Rehabilitation Program in 1979 and developed a hospital pain consultation service. In 2008 he founded the Neurological Center for Pain. Dr. Covington is an AAPM past president and has chaired the AAPM Opioid Advisory Committee since 2013. He continues to lecture and serves as a consultant for Cleveland Clinic, focused on creating opioid guidelines and educational programs for providers, patients, and families.He is member of the editorial review board of Pain Medicine and an ad hoc reviewer for Pain, The Journal of Pain, and the Clinical Journal of Pain. He served on the FDA’s Anesthetic and Analgesic Drug Products Advisory Committee. He lectures nationally and internationally on subjects related to chronic pain.
